About Us

Pay-what-you-can writerships. They’re like memberships, only fancier. We truly believe finances should not stop anyone from joining. Donations and monthly writership fees cover our operating costs (snacks, coffee, rent, utilities, WiFi, upkeep, website, insurance, furniture, advertising, etc.) and enable us to pay guest speakers and facilitators. We rely on our writers to be honest with themselves about their finances and choose a fee they can afford to invest in their journey as a writer.

A variety of in-house writing hours for the community to work on their projects. Most writing sessions are for our writers, but some may be open to the public. Our writing days and times fluctuate from month to month depending on our writers’ needs. We may expand our hours to host special writing hours during events like National Novel Writing Month and National Poetry Month. Peek inside our cozy space! A community to support and encourage each other as we work towards our writing goals, whatever those may be. We help each be the best writer versions of ourselves. All writers are welcome. Our monthly rotating events spark lively conversations and monthly meetings help us connect and keep everyone informed about everything that’s happening at My Writing Shed.

In-person and virtual classes and workshops, otherwise known as SHEDucation, from qualified folks to learn about the business (querying, publishing, marketing, ISBNs, taxes, copyright, LLCs, etc.) and the art of writing (poetry, structure, characters, voice, world building, nonfiction, songwriting, screenwriting, etc.) Anyone interested in becoming a SHEDucator should please fill out our handy application.

A groovy website to showcase our writers and make it easy for the public to find local writers and their work. Writers can share their personalized profile pages (i.e. mywritingshed.org/writers/myname) that include their bio and relevant links. We believe in the power of numbers and the magic that’ll happen with all of this talent in one place.
